This morning, Coalition member, Boyd Allen sent this email to Lands Minister, Cory Deagle asking for more details about the terms of reference on IRAC investigation. Stay tuned!
Hello Minister Deagle: I am encouraged by the call for information released by IRAC on December 15th in regards to its investigation on Buddhist land holdings in Kings County. Broadening this inquiry in this manner supports a more thorough investigation.
The release was specific on what information is sought and the method by which it is to be presented to the commission.
However, there are questions on the terms of reference which are not addressed in the public release. If a citizen comes forward with a submission through the email address provided, what is the next step in the process? Will the person providing a submission also be expected to testify in person or be deposed if deemed necessary by the commission? Will their personal information be accessible now or in the future?
After the 13 February deadline for submissions has been passed, what is the next step in this inquiry?
Again, the inclusion of third party testimony is a meaningful step. Unfortunately, If the security of potential witnesses is unclear, they will be reluctant to step forward.
If you could share information on these terms of reference, people would be more likely to come forward with information germane to this investigation.
A thorough and transparent process leading to clear and fair resolution to this long standing situation is what we all want.
Thank-you,
Boyd
